What is United Way of Navarro County?

United Way is a local entity that strives to improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. We work to identify needs and coordinate funding and services with five goals in mind:

1) Meeting Basic Needs

2) Developing Children & Youth

3) Strengthening Families

4) Caring for People in Crisis

5) Promoting Self-Sufficiency

How much of the donation that I give to United Way of Navarro County stays here?

98% of your donation goes to work in Navarro County! Two percent is divided between United Way of Texas and United Way of America for nationwide advertising, training and support.

Is my contribution tax-deductible?

Yes. All contributions to United Way of Navarro County are tax-deductible. You may give by mailing a check to P.O. Box 567, Corsicana, TX 75151 along with a completed pledge card.

How is money raised for United Way?

The majority of United Way donations are raised in the workplace. Each fall, volunteers visit businesses and explain services offered by agencies that receive United Way funding. These businesses offer their employees an opportunity to donate to United Way through payroll deduction. Companies usually make a corporate gift as well, and some companies match their employees’ gifts.

Where does the other funding come from?

Local trusts and foundations give generously to our United Way. The remainder comes through mail solicitation to retired persons and self-employed individuals.

What is a “Fair Share Gift?”

One hour’s pay per month.

Who runs United Way of Navarro County?

Locally, we have a 28 member board of directors, which represents all cross sections of Navarro County – business people, professionals, educators, and retirees. Kathy Hollomon is the Executive Director.

Who determines which agencies receive funding and how much?

Each year, agencies seeking funding complete an extensive application for funding of specific Programs. Within the application, agencies provide budget information, service goals, actions utilized to accomplish their goals, results of their efforts, and how the United Way grant will be spent. A committee composed of members of our local board of directors carefully evaluates each Program application and allocates funds based on their evaluations.

Are there qualifications that have to be met to be a United Way of Navarro County agency?

Yes. Each agency must have an Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) charitable tax status, cannot discriminate or withhold services because of race, religion, sex or national origin, must have an active board that meets on a regular basis, and must provide services to people living in Navarro County.

Who receives services from United Way Partner Agences?

All segments of our community benefit – all ages and races, the disabled and the needy. Youth development and education, services for the disabled, needy children and adults, and meals and services for homebound elderly are vital to the people of Navarro County every day.

Why does it matter to give to United Way?

Other than U.S. Government aid, United Way agencies are the largest provider of human service needs in our community. It is truly a way you can give one gift, and it will benefit many people in many ways. Your gift is an investment in the lives of our local community.

Where can I volunteer my time?

You can contact any United Way agency as shown on this website, or call our office at 903-874-5253. Partner Agencies can also use your services to sort clothes, deliver meals, mentor a child, undergo emergency assistance training, or numerous other helpful tasks.
